Beijing, April 8 (Xinhua) — China is ready to give up all territorial claims over Bongbongu district, one of the most contentious regions of Xinjiang, the capital of western China’s Muslim Uighur-majority region, according to its chief of staff.

Speaking in an interview to Xinhua news agency, the China’s top envoy said it would not be “very efficient” to use force to settle the disputes over sovereignty and the rights of Uighur people.

“One cannot try to settle disputes with the Dalai Lama, and it would be unprofessional to use force. However, there are circumstances in which one should resolve these issues unilaterally,” said Wang Chunping, according to Xinhua.

Wang is the second person appointed in two years to lead the Chinese government’s dialogue with the local Uighur people, the highest level since the beginning of talks in 1999.

The previous chief of staff, Liu Zhe, was named to lead an anti-terror campaign against radical Islam더킹카지노ists and other groups after Uighur Muslims in the city of Kashgar in 2011.

In the interview, Wang stressed the need for an end to “unilateral actions on the part of the authorities”.

China has long expressed concern over the ethnic tension that has developed in Xinjiang, which borders Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan

The Uighurs, who account for around one-sixth of China’s 1.4 billion population, live mostly in China and elsewhere, often on the far western periphery of the country.

There are several Uighur towns along the border with India and Pakistan, including Bambara, in the western province of Xinjiang, where most of the Uighurs live.
